Airline passengers in China face a hard choice deciding what to take on board domestic flights next month.
China's aviation regulator has issued a new policy that restricts most passengers from taking more than one piece of hand luggage on flights from May 1st.
An article carried by the Beijing Youth Daily says passengers are complaining about the restriction. Some say it is hard to identify what comprises one item. Should an article of clothing account for a piece of luggage? Others are worried about the safety of valuable goods being consigned.
According to the regulation, business and economy class passengers for domestic flights can only take one piece of baggage on board, which must not exceed five kilograms.
The paper says although the new measure will cause inconvenience to passengers, authorities insist it is to ensure aviation security. It will also shorten the time for security check, as less baggage is allowed on board.
Authorities also suggest passengers to try to put important belongings into one suitcase that fits as carry-on, and consign other unnecessary items, such clothing and liquids, as check-in luggage. If passengers have to take a piece of clothing with them, they should either wear or hold it.
The paper also says goods bought in airport shops after security checks can be taken on board.
