"This grant money will help recycle electronics and save valuable landfill space," said County Executive Leopold. "It will also assist in our mission of recycling all useful materials and protecting the public and the environment from the potential effects of metals and chemicals that may leach from electronics."
In 2006, Anne Arundel County established three permanent electronics recycling collection sites located at the Glen Burnie, Severn and Deale Convenience Centers. The electronics recycling collection program accepts TV’s, VCR’s, DVD players, computer monitors and accessories, cell phones, power supplies, laptops, stereos, answering machines and other home electronics for year-round recycling collection.
Since establishing the permanent electronic recycling sites in July of 2006, the County collected more than 4.4 million pounds of electronics for reuse or recycling. The projected processing cost of the program for Fiscal Year 2010 will be $80,000.
The time period of the grant will run for one year from MDE approval.
