The Midland, Mich.-based manufacturer, whose chemicals are used in everything from toys to automobiles, lobbied on legislation that dealt with surface transportation reauthorization, railroad antitrust, toxic substances and chemical security.
The global economic downturn has been particularly difficult on chemical manufacturers because their products are used in many consumer goods. Companies and consumers have slashed spending wherever possible, which cuts directly into sales for companies like Dow and DuPont.
From April to June, Dow lobbied Congress and federal agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency, Treasury Department. It also lobbied over energy efficiency, climate change, economic stimulus programs, pensions and issues related to credit markets, according to a report filed July 20 at the House clerk's office.
On international trade matters, Dow lobbied on Middle East investment policies and the U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement, among others.
