This was confirmed by Finance Secretary Margarito B. Teves yesterday.
"Yes [he will take oath as senior deputy commissioner]. I will request him to join us at the press conference," he said referring to a briefing on fical performance for July.
Mr. Torres’ appointment marks his return to the tax bureau, where he previously worked as an assistant commissioner. He was also president of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry committee on taxation and the private sector group Tax Management Association of the Philippines.
Mr. Torres was one of the 14 partners of SGV and Co. who left early this year after disagreeing with management plans pertaining to the role of British principal Ernst & Young. He then served as consultant of the BIR.
