China exported a total of US$1 billion of glass products in 2006, becoming the largest glass products exporter in the world. In 2006, glass product export accounted for 12.25% of total production in China. The top exporters of its glass products were Japan, U.S, Germany, United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong.
Liu Jianping, vice chairman of the association, said major developed countries, as well as China's neighboring countries, such as Japan and South Korea, have been experiencing a decline in production capacities of glass products. Looking ahead, China is likely to face more challenges in the glass manufacturing sector.
Liu also mentioned that China is also the largest producer of glass products and glass thermal containers, whereby the total production capacity reached approximately 13 to 14 million tons last year.
