Chinese car maker Nanjing automobile Group said production of the iconic MG sports car will re-start in England within weeks, ending a two-year halt after MG Rover collapsed with the loss of 5,000 jobs.
Nanjing Auto said last year it would build China's first car plant in the United States -- a facility in Oklahoma offering a full range of MG sports cars and sedans, including the TF Roadster and TF Coupe.
The company will make four models in China and the right-hand drive MG TF sports car at Longbridge in the Midlands. China's auto makers have made few inroads abroad, preferring to focus on a market that is ranked second only to the United States, but some are now looking to export Chinese-made cars and raise their profile overseas.
In November, China's Geely automobile Holdings sealed a deal with Manganese Bronze Holdings to make black London taxi cabs in China. China became a net vehicle exporter for the first time in 2005, with manufacturers such as Geely, Chery automobile and Great Wall Motor shipping fewer than 200,000 cars.
